Michael Macleod

Hailing from North Vancouver, BC, Mike’s career has taken him full circle so to speak.

He started his tourism journey in high school working for the iconic North Vancouver landmark Capilano Suspension Bridge, as a salmon BBQ chef and bridge attendant. His passion was ignited by conversing with visitors from all over the world as they waited patiently for the delicious salmon steaks. His journey then took him to the world of resort golf and then eventually to his calling in the hotel world, joining yet another iconic Vancouver property, the Westin Bayshore.

Over a span of 18 years, Mike primarily worked in convention and group sales, the success of which led him to climb the ranks into Sales & Marketing leadership for 15 years. During this period, Mike also embraced his inner travel bug, and took positions with both Westin and independent companies in California, Colorado, Alberta and eventually back to BC. Full circle! In 2020, Mike moved over to lead the daily operations and membership team with the BC Hotel Association. During the early period of his tenure with BCHA, he helped hotels navigate the ever changing rules and restrictions associated with the pandemic, as well as relaying their operational concerns back to health authorities. More recently, he focussed on conference production, commercial partnerships, grant funded projects, and training programs.

Mike’s tourism and hospitality passion is all about the connections and intersections that our industry provides. Connections with communities, businesses, people that you work with and people that you serve. Intersections of experiences and business and again of the people. While sales is his super talent, it’s seeing the outcomes of finding solutions, and seeing people fulfill their potential and their vision that really ignites his passion.

Mike has been mentored by a variety of great leaders in the hospitality industry and what sets those leaders apart and what Mike tries to live up to, is “be of service to others, always” and “it’s the things that you do when no one is looking that sets you apart! “ While he isn’t working you can find Mike on a golf course, on a trail with his dog or at a baseball diamond somewhere in North America as his son pursues a collegiate baseball career.
